The Second Annual US Army "Moustache March" Contest |
Actually held in May this year so I guess it is "Moustache May" |
These are some of our fine US Army members of Delta Company currently deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq. This is the second year that SGT J. Anthony Drake has led a moustache contest within his Company, although he has all new participants this year. They have once again asked the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club to judge the 2nd annual contest and we are glad to do so. They seem to feel that our club is home to the foremost beards and moustaches, not just in America, but actually in the world, so who are we to argue with their educated opinion? How could we refuse a request from such fine individuals in the service of our country? This incarnation of the contest is called "Moustache May". During the month of May, the soldiers grew out their moustaches to the best of their ability, within US Army regulations of course. At the end of May, they sent photographs of their hirsute accomplishments by email and members and friends of our club will act as non biased judges of their competition. Of the 15 soldiers who started the contest, only 7 were able to complete the mission. Some were ordered to shave, some had razor mishaps, and some just got way too itchy. We are extremely honored to do this for our soldiers and have enjoyed our communication with them. The winner of the contest will be sent a special award designed by Club Secretary David Traver. The "Teddy Roosevelt Award" will be issued to the man with the most outstanding military regulation moustache. Each soldier participating in Moustache May will be made an honorary club member to show our appreciation of their moustache growing abilities. God Bless you guys and stay safe. |

The first annual US Army Moustache March was a grand success and all of the soldiers who competed are winners. The judges had a very tough decision and actually all of the soldiers received at least one first place vote... It was a daunting task to attempt to grow a moustache in only 30 days and to have to follow the US Army regs for facial hair made this even harder. The main things the judges looked for were thickness and symmetry. The complete results are listed below. Good job guys and congratulations from all of us at the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club;) |

Each of the soldiers below started the competition, but had to withdraw for one reason or the other. Some were ordered to shave, some got tired of the facial hair emerging on their upper lip, and some had tragic razor mishaps. We would like to congratulate each of these men on joining in the contest and better luck next time! |
