------Results-------The First Annual US Army "Moustache March" Contest

US Army Shops Platoon, D Company 6-101 CAB. Of the famed 101 Airborne Division (Air Assault) based out of Clarksville, Tennessee, and currently stationed in Afghanistan.

The soldier in the first picture is PFC Chorn.

The three soldiers in the second picture are from left to right is SFC Boily, SGT Martin and SFC Williams.

The main group of soldiers pictured from left to right are SGT Teleha, PFC Wood, PFC Kajatani, SGT Hugg, SSG Kipp, PFC Ellsworth, SPC Drake (me), SGT Davis and SPC Weston.

These are some of our fine US Army members currently deployed to Afghanistan. SPC Drake apparently came up with the idea of having a moustache contest within his platoon. He stated that after doing extensive research on the internet, they came to the conclusion that the South Central AK Beard and Moustache Club was the right group of whiskered guys to judge their contest. They seem to feel that our club is home to the foremost beards and moustaches, not just in America, but actually in the world, so who are we to argue with their educated opinion? Via e-mail, they requested that the Southcentral Alaska Beard and Moustache Club judge there friendly competition. How could we refuse a request from such fine individuals in the service of our country?

They have created what they refer to as the "Moustache March". The idea arose to make this a competition of sorts, and a move was a foot to make it so. Each soldier last touched a razor to their upper lips on the first day of March 2008. During the month of March, they will grow out their moustaches to the best of their ability, within US Army regulations of course. At the end of March, they will send some pictures of their hirsute accomplishments by email and members and friends of our club will act as non biased judges of their competition.

We are extremely honored to do this for these men and have enjoyed our communication with them. After much thought, Club vice president, David Traver, decided to issue a special award, which he has named the "Teddy Roosevelt Award" to the man with the most outstanding military regulation moustache. Each soldier participating in the Moustache March will be made an honorary club member and be given a club patch to show our appreciation of their moustache growing abilities. So guys start growing those 'staches and "Bully" to you all!

God Bless you guys and stay safe.

AND THE WINNER IS!

The first annual US Army Moustache March was a grand success and all of the soldiers who competed are winners. The judges had a very tough decision and actually all of the soldiers received at least one first place vote... It was a daunting task to attempt to grow a moustache in only 30 days and to have to follow the US Army regs for facial hair made this even harder. The main things the judges looked for were thickness and symmetry. The complete results are listed below. Good job guys and congratulations from all of us at the South Central Alaska Beard and Moustache Club;)
